As Americans vote today, Media Justice Network reminds voters that the 2026 midterm elections are projected to be the most expensive midterms in US history, with total spending expected to reach $11.9 billion, according to OpenSecrets. Dark money – funds whose original sources are not publicly disclosed – has already reached a record of nearly $1.47 billion in contributions to super PACs, exceeding the 2024 cycle, which included a presidential race (OpenSecrets).
